We have traveled around 650 miles over the last three days and, finally, made it out of the state of Texas. Late this morning, between Pecos and El Paso, Texas, we crossed into the Mountain Time Zone. Just west of El Paso and just this side of the Rio Grande River from Mexico, Interstate 10 took us into the state of New Mexico. For the next few days, we are staying at the Las Cruces KOA campground, where we received a warm welcome from Tony & Chris Fassi, the owners. Tony was an instructor at the Camping World Institute in Kentucky when Ed was a student in 2003. Tony was a great teacher and we wanted to come by, say hello, and see their new place. Tony & Chris have spent the last 2 1/2 years completely renovating this campground, turning it into an award-winning KOA. We are parked with a view of the town of Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley spread out below. The Organ Mountains beyond the valley, we have been promised, light up with the setting sun. Now, this might get confusing. We're in New Mexico, but still haven't posted photos from as far back as Memphis. My goal is to get caught up as much as possible this weekend. See you back here soon!
